Nov. 9 Support Rally for Doc B.
Buses, Restrooms, Parking, Coffee Shops and More

Advance News Coverage:
Newsweek: "A War Over Lyme Disease"

*Note:

  • The rally is scheduled to take place in New York City in front of the Plaza Hotel (59th Street and 5th Avenue) on Thursday, November 9th from 1:30 pm - 4 pm.
  • We are gathering to show support for Dr. Burrascano and to call for an investigation of the Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC). We contend that the charges against this doctor are nothing more than a misuse of government power by the OPMC in order to force compliance with one side of an ongoing scientific controversy. Patients feel that our lives and well-being are being put in jeopardy by the actions of the OPMC.
  • There is a small step at each entrance to the plaza, so be careful not to trip. There will be administrators wearing armbands at each entrance to warn people to watch their step, and to answer questions of the attendees.
  • Wear plenty of layers to be prepared for poor weather.
  • NO sales will be permitted on site.
  • A map of midtown manhatten can be found at: http://www.express-res.com/index2.htm (scroll down page)

On November 9th (1:30-4:00 pm), there will be a large rally in NYC outside the Plaza Hotel (59th St and 5th Ave). This event will coincide with a press conference being held within the Plaza by FAIM (the Foundation for the Advancement of Innovation in Medicine) to express public support for Dr Joseph Burrascano. It is vitally important that as many people as possible attend to show moral support for Dr B and all Lyme Literate MDs who also may be at risk NOW and in the FUTURE!

Therefore, we will have numerous chartered buses traveling from different points in Massachusetts to this critically important rally at the Plaza in Manhattan on Thursday, November 9th. All families and individuals wishing to travel with us inexpensively by "Luxury Coach", please call Polly Emilitas at (508) 636-3585. We hope to see you ALL there!

    New York:
New Yorkers: If you are near New York City, you will have no problem getting to the rally. But New York is a big state...if you live in Binghamtom, for instance, or at a distance from any direction, please think about hiring a bus.

Ellen has delegated me as the contact for New York, so please e-mail me privately to discuss this. I will be phoning group leaders within a few days.

This press conference/rally, as we all know, is our opportunity to make a splash, to inform about Lyme and to support Dr. B.

    PARKING GARAGES:

For those carpooling, parking info is as follows:

Coming to the Plaza from the west side hwy, 57th is the best thru street to come on. However, there don't appear to be any parking garages on 57th near the plaza. Therefore, one would have to shift to either 58th or 56th. 58th would be the closest (1 way, east), and has multiple parking garages between 5th and 6th ave. 56th, 1 way west (?), also has multiple parking garages (4 I think) between 5th and 6th.

On the east side of the park, on 58th (1 way east), there isn't a parking garage until 2 blocks away, just east of park ave.

I don't know how parking prices compare.

    RESTROOMS:

(NOTE: The location is Grand Army Plaza, 59th and 5th. On east side of the plaza is 5th Ave, on the west side is the Plaza hotel separated by a drive through area, on the north side is 59th St. and on the south side is 58th St.)

Bergdorf's (B. burgdorferi?) is across from the plaza on 58th (behind the fountain). Take elevator to 7th floor. 7 stalls in ladies room.

The Plaza Hotel is just west (just across the driveway) of the plaza and has bathrooms available to the public.

The "Trump" building across 5th Ave does not appear to have public restrooms. However, there is a Trump building with public restrooms 1-2 blocks south of the plaza, on 5th Ave.

The FAO Schwartz just across from the plaza on 5th Ave has public restrooms. Take the escalator or elevator to the second level. Straight ahead of the escalator is a display wall. To the left side of that wall is the ladies room, 6 stalls. However, this store location is not recommended for those with sounds and light sensitivities.

    FOOD AND COFFEE:

If people want to spend their life savings they can eat at the Plaza. There is also a cafe in Bergdorf's on the 5th floor. On 57th Street and 5th there is Trump Tower which has a coffee shop on the lower level . Also, if people walk through the street level of the Trump Tower to Madison Avenue, they will be in a public sitting area, plenty of chairs and coffee/sandwich counter. There is also a coffee shop on 58th east of 5th.
